California Girls and Boys

We are back from Palm Springs after having enjoyed a week in the sun. It was a well-timed trip, too, as Seattle enjoyed its first snow in April since 1972. We can't all be record-breakers now, can we?

Clara enjoyed her usual haunts: The Living Desert Museum, the pool, Shields Date Gardens, the pool, the playground, the patio, the pool, etc. Apparently, our previous visit to the date farm in December made quite an impression. When our plane began its descent into Palm Springs, Clara squealed "dates, dates!" as the date palms came into view. It's baffling sometimes--the things she remembers.

As relaxing and warm as our trip was, it's good to be home, too. Our poor cat Hugo missed us (but Clara, especially) terribly. We have lots of good friends who have just had babies (hello, baby Oliver and the Pleskaces), and many others who are due shortly (Danielle/Royal, Mike/Jen, Jen/Nate, Jennifer/Rob). Clara and I were happy to be back at college this Tuesday to see our old classmates again. We even took the bus there to celebrate Earth Day. No super-sized carbon footprint for us!

Other joyous events springtime events: Clara is learning to identify flowers. Her current repertoire includes daffodils and tulips. As for other plant life, there's the aforementioned date palms and cactus. We have a budding botanist in our midst.
